I original I had 10 minutes to get a shot for his story. However after getting a standard shot, I nearly walked away. However I knew there was something more I could do.
Every assignment has it's own spin, and taking on this one was a bit of fun. The idea behind the story was very esoteric, and with nothing in particular handy to use as props it's the interpretation to convey meaning and engagement. I gleaned from the interview with Graeme was the concern about what the decision meant for Scotland and for Britain. That really give me the idea to use the stormy clouds (it rained not long after the shoot), and feathered lighting to give a dramatic feel. Looking off camera up and into the future to give the idea of concern. Turning his body away, but having him look left might give the impression of looking away from the original thought.
Jeremy is an amazing person. His talent is prodigious, and his love of life is great.
I had him and his friend where in the studio for a feature on their intrepid trip to the international beard growing competition. We had a blast, great sense of humour and some great shots came out of it.
I think how we respect those who have past show us how we respect each other. I always photograph or attend an ANZAC day parade, it gives me pause to be thankful for the life we have.
I like this shot because it gives you the feeling of isolation that the honour guard represents.
Bearded competitors Jeremy Mayall (red hair) and Jason Hansen (Glasses) are entering an international beard growning competition in Norway. They have just started and are making a documentary on the way.
I was sent out on this project, to capture some great shots of the comp. But in the late evening summer light, I saw this opportunity, and loved the look. Perhaps it's not the typical surfer shot, but I do love it.
This was my first time to cover a prison story and my biggest concern was to hide their identity, and capture the story about Anti-smoking, and the new prison policy due to come in to rule. .. and of course make it beautiful.
This girl is full of personality. I loved this birthday shoot. This shot really makes it work with the expression and hand position. She really is a deep thinker and alot of her personality comes out here.
Mr Rob Darby with chickens from the Frenz egg company talks about the definitions of "Free Range" and the proposed new national standards.
Lake Karapiro, it's famous, not just for rowing though that's what most people know it for. Dawn on this morning was spectacular to say the least. I loved the story that the two rowers add to this picture. You can imagine yourself one of them, out there training hard.
This commission came through and I spent a bit of time traveling around the regional looking for some special stuff. I love this shot because with the cows in the field, it really gives a strong narrative, or story. The cows engaging with the viewer really make you stop and look.
Down in Queenstown and the snow came, and everything just turned beautiful. I love the layers and colours in this one.
One of the most beautiful cities I've lived in. After three years there I have hundreds beautiful images. One day I'll head back and down some filming there.
One of my favourite shots from three years in Kyoto Japan. In the Geisha district of Gion, this Mama San heads off to work in a tea house near the Kamogawa. I love the atmosphere of the street, and her expression on her face. It all just ties together.
